The goals you set should have clear expectations. When it comes to goals, no one benefits from ambiguity. Giving both your team and yourself clear expectations will result in more powerful and effective goals.
In addition to your goals being stronger, clear expectations will increase performance. People are more likely to rise to your expectations when those expectations are clear.
Big Picture Goals
When you create goals for your firm, they should motivate you to rise above the small details. No doubt that those details are important. However, your firm will never grow and progress if you, as the owner, aren’t able to rise above the details.
Your goals should challenge you to look at the big picture. Work on your firm, not just in it. What are the things you’d like to see the firm achieve? Where would you like to be in 5 years? How are you going to get there? Your job as the owner is to have this vision and create goals that will help your business get there.

Ask yourself: “What is my genius?” In other words, what are the things that you, and only you, can do for your business. Those are the things you would not outsource, of course.
